Our client wanted to update a newly purchased property. Their aim was to create a snug next to the kitchen to allow for relaxed entertaining.

This image shows the room in its original state. It was used as a separate dining room with the door leading in from the hall, rather than from the kitchen.

Repurposing the room involved simply blocking up one doorway and forming a new one in the adjacent wall

Dragonfly Home Design worked from the clients brief, producing a digital floorplan to illustrate the changes.

This annotated diagram shows how the updated room would look after  the redesign.

Adding new oak floorboards and removing the wallpaper helped to brighten the area by reflecting light from the south facing window.

In addition to a floorplan, digital 'photos' helped the client to visualise how the room would look when complete.

Using a design package, the Dragonfly Home Designer was able to provide inspirational true-to-life images, incorporating the clients existing sofa and a colourful painting.

The chestnut leather furniture was teamed with blue cushions and a silky teal rug to give a restful, cosy feel.

As the colour scheme was agreed at a progress meeting, painting could commence.

A skilled decorator is invaluable, and will be able to produce a top-quality finish. Pammie from Pamela Orpin Painting Services is shown here cutting in a very pale  grey matt emulsion. 

When the flooring had been laid, the furniture was placed in accordance with the floorplan.

 The advantage of planning the room layout in advance meant that the long leather sofa fitted perfectly into its allocated space.

The multicoloured hare print on the wall references both the colour of the sofa and the rug. 

A trailing ivy helps to soften the edge of the bookcase, and a tall dragon palm echoes the height in the opposite corner.

Houseplants are known to release oxygen and improve air quality. They are available in all shapes and sizes, and are a valuable addition to any living space.

The final result is a comfortable and coordinated snug ready to receive family and friends.
