Upper Woolhampton Remodelling

This building was being used for commercial purposes when our clients purchased the property. 

Location, location, location. Although little more than a wooden barn, the house was in an AONB and surrounded by beautiful countryside.

After WBC granted 'change of use', Dragonfly Home Design were invited to submit a proposal for complete remodelling.

Although already a good size, the T-shaped building was divided into a number of small offices.

Dragonfly drafted a plan to open up the internal space and create a spectacular covered balcony on the first floor.

Extending one leg of the 'T' provided a substantial new kitchen/diner with master en suite above.  

The issue of marrying old and new was overcome by recladding the entire building in new pre-treated feather-edge timber.

Exposing the external structure offered the perfect opportunity to install new hi-tech insultation around the entire building.      

To reflect its barn-like origins, Dragonfly included materials such as oak and wrought iron for external features.

Internally the entire project was treated like a newbuild with new wiring, plumbing and plastering throughout.

 One of our bugbears is being able to see the join between old and new, so we commissioned an oak cover to hide the structural beam in the kitchen.

The craftsmen of Oak Designs produced an amazing casing from a single piece of oak. Even  building control thought it was a solid oak beam.

We sourced materials from around the UK and Europe to ensure the quality and style of  finish met with our clients high expectations. 

For example, the glass balustrade was manufactured to give panoramic views from the master bedroom over the fields beyond.

A matching timber clad 3-bay garage was also constructed with a large home gym above.

The completed house offered a spacious interior, with a covered balcony adding the 'wow' factor to an exterior that blended seamlessly into the surrounding countryside.
